Emirates unveils green initiatives
24 July 2008

Dubai-based airline Emirates has unveiled a number of new initiatives that are designed to reduce its impact on the environment.

The airline will soon receive its first Airbus A380, which is reportedly the world's most eco-efficient commercial aircraft, and it is hoped that the use of these planes will have an environmental benefit.

Emirates also plans to launch a global staff awareness campaign and introduce internal goals to reduce energy consumption and reduce waste.

A number of conservation-based resort projects are currently being developed by the Emirates group, including the 4,000 Wolgan Valley complex in Australia's Blue Mountains.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of the airline, said: 'Emirates is committed to acting responsibly and sustainably in the interests of our customers, our business, the environment and the 100-plus destinations we serve worldwide.'

Emirates recently promoted the impending launch of its A380 services by placing a giant replica Airbus A380 at the approach to Heathrow airport.

The creation is the world's biggest aircraft model, weighing in at 45 tonnes, and is replacing the British Airways model Concorde.
