Brits 'becoming more interested in long-haul'
20 August 2008
Adventurous, long-haul holidays are becoming increasingly interesting to British people, according to research.
A study by private bank Cater Allen found that 26% of people aspire to travel in Europe this year, compared to 63% who want to venture outside the continent.
Australasia (21%) is the most popular long-haul region with travelling Brits, followed by North America (17%) and Asia (9%).
Survey respondents indicated that they are becoming more adventurous in their holiday types as well as destinations, with 26% saying they would like to explore off the beaten track and 22% wanting to visit a mountainous area.
Just over one in ten said they aspire to visiting a rainforest and a similar proportion expressed an interest in going on safari.
Sally Ann Watts, head of marketing at Cater Allen, said: 'This research shows that Britons are moving away from traditional holidays and becoming aspirational in their holiday choices.'
More than two thirds (69%) of the survey respondents said they dislike crowds of tourists and half said they prefer unspoilt locations to holiday hotspots.
