Over 80% of holidaymakers to travel again in 2009
06 October 2008

Some 83% of British holidaymakers plan to take another trip abroad in the next year, according to research.

A survey carried out by Ipsos Mori for the Association of British Travel Agents in the first two weeks of September also found that 47% of people have no intention of changing their travel plans due to the current economic situation.

Exactly half of the people surveyed said they will not be taking shorter holidays and 46% said that neither the destinations they plan to visit nor their type of trip will be influenced by financial issues.

Just under four in ten people (38%) said they plan to travel less next year and 35% said the credit crunch will have a bearing on their choice of destination.

Considering the current strength of the euro, less than half (46%) of respondents to the poll said they would visit western Europe in the next year, compared to the 65% of people who travelled in the region in 2008.

According to the figures from the survey, 42% of people took one holiday abroad this year, compared to 30% who made three or more trips in the last 12 months.
