Venezuelan island 'an up-and-coming spot'
24 July 2008

The island of Margarita off the coast of Venezuela is one of the world's up-and-coming tourism and investment destinations, an industry expert has claimed.

Margarita is located in the Caribbean Sea, north-east of Venezuela, and is part of the country's Nueva Esparta state, which also comprises the islands of Coche and Cubagua.

According to Nick Marr, chief executive of Homesgofast, a UK-based overseas property portal, the government is encouraging foreigners to visit and invest in Margarita.

'The government is pushing [tourism] and also it's a place that's attractive to lots of different types of tourist,' he said.

'[There are] American, South American and European tourists, so it seems to be able to attract tourism from all over. It's a place that is definitely up-and-coming."

Flights and connections to Venezuela are available with carriers including Air France and Continental Airlines. Margarita can be reached via regional services and ferry crossings from the mainland.
