Early booking advised for cheap-flight hunters
11 August 2008

People on the lookout for cheap flights have been advised that they will have a higher chance of picking up a bargain if they book early.

Tom Hall, travel editor of Lonely Planet, said that cheap airfares are still available despite the fact that airlines' profit margins are being squeezed by rising oil prices.

'Early bookers will always score the best deals when it comes to cheap flights,' he claimed.

Mr Hall said that there are opportunities for people to find bargain flights as long as they 'keep their eyes peeled for special deals' and strive to understand how the system of booking cheap flights works.

Travellers were advised that they must be willing to meet a number of conditions if they want to keep their flights cheap, including a readiness to travel at antisocial hours, a willingness to take hand luggage only and the capability to check in online.

According to a report from the International Air Transport Association, global passenger traffic growth reached 3.8% in June, while airline capacity increased by 5.5%.
